Flores is a fascinating and beautiful islandLong hidden in the shadows
of its more famous neighbor of Bali, the island of Flores is finally
emerging as a unique destination in itself. So, after visiting the lair
of the dragons of Komodo, take time to marvel at some of the wonders of
Flores. Here you can swim in crystal clear lakes and waterfalls, diving
in one of 50 spectacular dive sites, kayak among the rugged coastlines
and coastal mangroves, exploring mysterious caves and be very well

Flores spells adventure, diving, ecotourism and climbing, interspersed
with visits to prehistoric heritage sites, traditional villages and
cultural events.
Until recently, many tourists have only been
familiar with Labuan Bajo, a small port located on the westernmost tip
of the island and take-off point to visit the last natural habitat of
prehistoric Komodo dragons, the islands of Komodo, Padar and Rinca.
Located in the province of East Nusatenggara, Flores is a long island
that contains some of the best kept secrets in the world. A chain of
volcanoes extends along the 450 km long and narrow island, the creation
of complex V-shaped valleys and ridges knife edge - land that was nearly
impenetrable until recently and is separated from the island in many
groups different ethnic.
Administratively, the island is
divided into 8 districts, West Manggarai, Manggarai, Manggarai East
Nagekeo, Ngada, Ende, East Flores and Sika. Further east are the
adjacent islands of Alor and Lembata.
Here are some of life's most
exotic underwater world. Diving in the pristine waters of Komodo, divers
found along swimming huge manta rays, dolphins and dugongs, while
whales can be seen passing the east coast of Flores during their
migration period.
The island is surrounded by sparkling white sand beaches, which even has
a pink sand beach. Mt Kelimutu, near the town of Maumere, has three
lakes of different colors that can change colors from time to time.
In addition to the dragons of Komodo, Flores has been the focus of
world attention with the discovery of the Flores hobbit, or Homo
floresiensis, a new species previously unknown prehistoric humans whose
remains were found in the Liang Bua cave.
This island is very
old, having been intact for centuries, once inhabited by prehistoric and
prehistoric creatures still live, as well as containing the remains of a
petrified forest.
In the eastern tip of the island, Larantuka
is famous for its Holy Week rituals weeks after the former Portuguese
